OBJECT_DESCRIPTION_EN :
The puppet string technique is very demanding, and the puppet has an above-average scale, yet it has great dexterity of movement. As well as walking, moving its hands and head, the puppet has extra strings that allow it to move backwards and even do the pin, thus demonstrating the physical dexterity of these characters and accentuating the imagery of court jesters.
This character has very distinctive features that go back to the origin of its construction. The studies created a wooden string puppet, without the use of paint, where the different shades of the costume are achieved through the choice of different woods.
This puppet has taken part in various street shows, especially in the context of historical re-enactments.
OBJECT_CONTEXT_EN :
Bibas is the court jester of Afonso Henriques' father in Alexandre Herculano's novel and served as inspiration for the creation of this figure. This was the motto that motivated us to carry out a research project on jesters and jesters in the Portuguese court.
