OBJECT_DESCRIPTION_EN :
Based on research into old maritime maps, we traveled to the universe of monsters and unknown sea creatures that provided the basic idea for these characters. We wanted to match the traditional figuration of northern Portugal, which can be clearly seen in the coloring of the figures. We chose strong, solid colors that would cut out the figures in space when manipulated.
The figures sit on metal structures supported on their backs, which we recognize as backpacks used by hikers. The figures are all made of cane, wicker, tape, paper and finished with a wide range of colors. These figures stand above the puppeteer's head and the side fins are manipulated using extendable sticks.
OBJECT_CONTEXT_EN :
These figures were clearly created to be presented in a street, outdoor, open-air and wide-open space context. They are mainly characters for visual contemplation and don't have much dramatic density beyond that which has been imprinted through the sculpture.
Sustainability is evident in the use of wicker, as well as a correlation between the sea and traditional Portuguese figures from the north of Portugal.
