OBJECT_DESCRIPTION_EN :
The personality of this puppet takes us back to an aging rural universe that is resistant to the introduction of innovation and transformation, as well as fighting to preserve the identity of its experiences. A struggle that is not always balanced between the conservation of heritage and the evolution of society for the future, integrating this same traditional heritage, which belongs to the people, the places, but also to the common identity. This figure represents a miller woman who lives in a mill, inspired by the mills in the Figueira da Foz area, known as moinhos da Gândara, gandareses mills. The old miller lives in a small replica belonging to the show scenography.
The scale was defined, taking as its starting point the puppeteer's hand, which is placed inside the torso. Thus defining scales for the size of the puppets and the different scenographies so that, in a realistic plastic approach, the whole universe that the show intends to address could be understood.
The puppet has a complex mechanism installed in its torso. It was important for the puppet to be able to move its legs autonomously, as well as its head simultaneously, using only one hand of the manipulator. In this way, it would be possible for the puppeteer to control two puppets at the same time. Thus, by integrating triggers moved by the index finger and the middle finger, the legs are moved, and the head is coordinated by the thumb.
OBJECT_CONTEXT_EN :
For the creation of this puppet, we drew inspiration from Michel Giacometti's ethnic-musical collections, which present us with the woman on the wheel. Having lost her animal, the driving force behind her mill, she climbs onto the wheel in her bare feet and, with her strength, makes it move so that the mill's wheel doesn't stop and can thus produce bread. This harsh Portuguese reality of the 1960s was the source of inspiration for the construction of this little figure.
